The XLW2090 built by Wuhan, China-based Xiaolong Automotive, is one of a several configurations that is built on an adaptable chassis. The truck is equipped with:

  • 4.5-liter Cummins four-cylinder diesel engine
  • Over 17 inches of ground clearance
  • 55.5-degree approach angle
  • Claimed 7,700-pound payload

It is built to be an all-terrain, all road types and all-weather conditions workhorse.

Xiaolong, pronounced “Shout Lone”, translates to mean the Fierce Dragon. According to Chinese culture, the mythical dragon symbolizes majesty and dominance.

According to the Xiaolong Automotive Technologies Co., Ltd website, it was founded in 2006 to be “a specialized manufacturer of all-terrain vehicles that provide advanced off-road mobility suitable for demanding work conditions to special clients from all industries.”

Living up to its mission statement, Xiaolong sent nine vehicles on an epic journey in 2009. This convoy formed two teams and took a rigorous 20,000 km trip through Tibet and Xinjiang. Driving through these areas, they found some of the world’s most extreme conditions with lots of difficult terrain, low oxygen levels, extreme temperature differences and rugged terrain.

Xialong said the trip was incredibly risky with several close calls. The vehicles drove through these remote areas void of humans to collect performance information in high temperature and altitude conditions.
