Top 10 2011 Tacoma Stories

Our Top 10 list of 2011 stories we posted throughout the year.

10. 2011 SEMA Oakley Surf Tacoma – This year’s SEMA event had lots of cool trucks, many of which we covered, including the Oakley Surf Tacoma. This annual event is always good for some cool, some wacky and some jaw dropping trucks.

9. EPA States 2012 Tacoma Best Fuel Economy – No surprise here that the Tacoma is has the top fuel economy of compact pickups. This story was just one of several where Tacoma came out on top again and again. Toyota continues to make trucks that American consumers want; great fuel economy, sleek designs and great power (see: what GM, Ford, Chrysler Group can’t figure out.)

8. 2014 Tacoma Will Have New Engine – According to reliable sources, the 2014 Toyota Tacoma will be getting a new direct injection engine. How cool is that?

7. 2012 Tacoma – No Major Changes – Is it a sign that you don’t “fix something if it isn’t broken” or is it a sign that Toyota is planning something larger with the Tacoma? Either way, we were a little disappointed in not having anything new and exciting for the 2012 Tacoma.

6. Chevy’s New 2013 Colorado – What To Expect – Chevy has finally decided to return and offer a real competitor to the Tacoma. Is it a little too little, too late or will American consumers be swayed away from the industry leading Tacoma? We are sure to keep you updated in the years to come.

5. Balloon Boy Dad Invents Truck Accessory – Have you seen this video yet? No? Watch the video and you will quickly understand why this post made the Top 10. ‘Nuff said.

4. The CEO Confirms It – Ford Ranger is DEAD 4Ever – Yep, it is the end of the line for a North American version of the Ford Ranger. This story speaks to the changes in the compact truck market and how manufactures see its future.

3.Toyota Workers Build Houses Instead of Trucks – Most everyone has heard how the Japan earthquake and the flooding in Thailand has reduced Toyota’s production. But, what they may not know is what happens to those workers who don’t have parts and are out of jobs to do. Well, Toyota stepped up and PAID them to build houses for Habitat for Humanity. Cool, very cool.

2. Coming Soon – Toyota Entune Replaced With Intel Technology – While this story may not stand out as the most exciting story, it is a sign of the times with Toyota working on bringing more computer technology into trucks. We look forward to hearing more from Toyota and Intel.

Drum roll please…

1. Why Do Toyota Tacoma Leaf Springs Break? – This story was just one of several we posted on this frustrating issue. We even saw a new TSB about a ‘squeaky’ leaf spring. All this adds up to everyone getting an education in leaf spring design and replacement.
