Chicago Tribune Reviews 2011 Toyota Tacoma – What Was Said
Sara Lacey of Cars.com recently reviewed the 2011 Toyota Tacoma for the Chicago Tribune. She enjoyed the way the car drove and its amenities, like the subwoofer between the rear seats and the rear-hinged doors. However, Lacey was concerned that the truck was not well suited for her young children.

Chicago Tribune recently had Sara Lacey of Cars.com review the 2011 Toyota Tacoma. She called it a fun ride.
After driving the Tacoma around, Lacey thought it was a particularly fun truck to drive, but her young children didn’t share in her enjoyment from the back seat. “The kids, ages 6 and 8, loved the truck…However, they really struggled with the rear-opening cab doors that couldn’t be opened unless the front door was opened first. To open, a hefty squeeze of the handle inside the rear door was required. I had to help them a lot.”
Also, Lacey found that the back seats themselves were not suited well for her young children. “Then the kids started loathing how tight the fit was in the backseat. It’s not that bad in terms of legroom, but there’s no angle to the seatbacks, forcing the kids to sit up very straight.”
However, Lacey had a blast driving the Tacoma, describing even mundane trips to the grocery store or to pick up the kids as an “adventure” because of the truck’s performance, handling and good fuel economy.
Lacey also found the tighter fit in the cab to her liking. She especially enjoyed the little shelf next to the ignition, calling it “the perfect spot for a wallet, cell phone or other gadget.”

Really? What’s the deal here? You picture a double cab, but Sara Lacey clearly drove an Access Cab. “they really struggled with the rear-opening cab doors that couldn’t be opened unless the front door was opened first”
If you have children… don’t buy the Access Cab, buy the Double Cab. I bought my Access Cab specifically because I didn’t want more people riding with me.
Has anyone really ever heard a kid that “liked” riding in the back seat? Not to forget to mention, that while the back seat sits straight up, did it ever occur that it was helping her kids’ posture?
Anywho, the point is that most kids don’t like riding in the backseat so it would be hard pressed to make this point stick. However, with kids that age, their is a weight requirement for the airbag to be deployable. Which is another reason for the kids to be in the back seat (who wants to see their child get hit with the airbag if ever in an accident. Those airbags deploy quite swiftly.).
The back seat of a Tacoma AC is LUXURIOUS compared to the back seat of an ’88 Nissan (what my dad drove from when I was 13 through 18, and I always got the back…). Sideways facing, and with TWO in the back facing each other. In my Tacoma AC, I frequently have ADULT passengers in the back, and have heard no complaints.
As far as the kids complaining, sounds like BAD PARENTING. Need to tell them “When you grow up and have a job, you get to buy your own car and sit in the front seat, until then, stuff it.”
I bought an ’11 AC 4×4, I’m getting married in just over 2 months, we are planning on having kids, and I’m going to drive this Tacoma half a million miles.
