Canadian Auto Reviewer Howard J. Elmer recently took the 2012 Tacoma for a spin

1. Price is his favorite feature. He really liked that Toyota lowered the price on all their Tacomas from 2011; however, he did feel that the base models are still a bit overpriced for their lack of updated technology.

2. He celebrates the Tacoma’s ruggedness and the fact that it’s a hard-working truck in a world where most sturdy small-to-mid-sized trucks have fallen by the wayside.

3. Another highlight for Elmer is the V6 engine because of its power and torque. He is less impressed, though, with the “adequate” four-cylinder engine, although he likes its fuel economy.

4. He feels that changes to the exterior, such as the grille, hood and bumpers, are mostly cosmetic and designed to bring its appearance in line with Toyota’s other trucks. He describes them as “a facelift…nothing drastic, just a touch up…nothing revolutionary…” However, the price makes up for his lack of enthusiasm for what he describes as modest changes.

Overall, he finds the changes to the 2012 Tacoma to be minor and nothing to write home about, but likes that it’s still a rugged truck at a good price. In this economy, it’s hard to complain when you’re getting more options at a lower price.
